Údarás na Gaeltachta and the Arts Council entered into a partnership in 1997 in order to develop the indigenous and contemporary arts in the Gaeltacht or Irish speaking regions of Ireland.

Ealaín na Gaeltachta Teo., a subsidiary company of Údarás na Gaeltachta was set up to implement an arts plan for the Gaeltacht and is funded jointly by the Arts Council and Údarás na Gaeltachta.

There are three Arts Officers employed by Ealaín na Gaeltachta in the various Gaeltacht regions (Connacht and Co Meath, Munster, and Ulster) to assist and encourage artists and arts organisations to develop arts projects and to further their careers.

The arts team fall under the management of The Department of Policy and Planning within Údarás na Gaeltachta
